December 2024 | Update 8: Pickleball with a Purpose Charity Event
On Friday evening, September 6, 2024, TSC co-hosted the First Annual Pickleball with a Purpose Charity Tournament with Promise686 at the Atlanta Pickleball Center. It was great for so many reasons and on so many levels.
First and foremost, it allowed us to raise awareness for vulnerable children & their families, specifically those in the foster care community. That would have been enough, but there was so much more.
It also gave us to the opportunity to share TSC’s vision of creating trauma-informed outdoor spaces and experiences for the foster care community with a bunch of folks who have never heard of TSC. Huge.
The event also allowed TSC to build deeper relationships with the amazing team at Promise686.
Promise686 is doing some really great things to resource, build, & equip church communities to care for foster children and their families & other caregivers.
They’re known to be both innovative & collaborative in their approach, and are highly sought after as a potential partner.
So, as I’ve shared with some of my Promise friends, it felt like the “cool kids” in the foster care community (Promise686) invited the “new kid” (TSC) to sit with them at their lunch table!
The event also illustrated what it looks like and how powerful it can be when people, companies, & organizations get together to champion a common purpose. That’s the “C” in TSC … Collective. Boom!
Britt’s and my dear friends, Katie & Robb Herzfeld, allowed us to use their amazing indoor pickleball facility at the Atlanta Pickleball Center to host the event. (Thanks K2theT and 2bRobb! We can’t thank y’all enough!)
Pickleball pros, Danny Wuerffel, Ewa Radzikowska, Lionel Fuentes, and Alia Brown, got things started by showing off their stuff in an exhibition game prior to the event.
Ellison Brothers Bar-B-Que provided an incredibly tasty dinner, while Steady Hand Brewery & Local Vine provided drinks.
The event was made possible by our sponsors: Joola, King Landscaping, MillerClapperton, Zurn Plumbing Service, Schoor Family Foundation, Regenerative Orthopaedics and Spine Institute, and CCI Real Estate.
And 50 or so other folks showed up to play pickleball and show their support!
Now, that’s a community-wide event!
It also allowed both Promise686 & TSC to raise some money to fund our respective efforts. And every $ is so appreciated.
And finally, as you can tell from the pics, we had a ton of fun! (You can also tell that some of us are NOT pros!)
It was a great night! Thanks to everyone for helping us make it happen. We look forward to our SECOND Annual Pickleball with a Purpose Charity Event next year!
